Dr Duan is a Senior Lecturer, and an ARC Industry Fellow at Water Research Centre, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UNSW. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2019 at The Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology (ACWEB), the University of Queensland (UQ). Prior to joining UNSW, he worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology (UQ).
His research focuses on carbon and energy efficient wastewater treatment technologies, greenhouse gas emissions from wastewater treatment processes, and excess sludge management. He has published >60 fully refereed journal papers with citations > 3,000, and received Environmental Science & Technology Best Papers award (2018).
