Management Framework for Recycled Water Quality and Use

This course provides practical training in implementing the Framework for management of recycled water quality and use (the Framework), as presented in the Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling: Managing Health and Environmental Risks (Phase 1) 2006 (AGWR).

This is a practical course, structured around a series of sessions that illustrate each of the principles and concepts of the Framework using illustrative examples. The course is delivered using a series of short lectures, followed by illustrative case study examples from operating, regulator-approved recycled water schemes, and small group exercises to provide opportunities for participants to apply the concepts to their own situations.

The course was developed at the request of recycled water regulators. One of the objectives of the course was to assist people seeking to be certified as RABQSA Water Quality Management Systems (WQMS) auditors, with a recycled water grade, in accordance with the RABQSA WQMS Auditor Certification Scheme. The scheme has been developed to incorporate four (4) grades: Drinking Water QMS Auditor, Lead Auditor, Recycled Water QMS Auditor and Lead Auditor.  The recycled water grades require completion of the competency unit RABQSA-RW, demonstrated through completion of a written exam based on Chapter 2 of the AGWR, which will be administered by RMIT. Therefore, Chapter 2 of the AGWR is covered in full detail during this course.

The trainers delivering the course have been intimately involved in developing and implementing the AGWR in full, including the Framework. Dan Deere was a member of the AGWR Risk Management Framework and Integration Working Group, and was part of the Working Group that developed the Requality tool for Framework implementation assessment for the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA). Daryl Stevens was a member of the AGWR Environmental Risk Working Group, and the Coordinator of the Scientific Services for the Environmental Risk Component. Both Dan and Daryl are involved in facilitating and assessing the implementation of the AGWR for recycled water schemes across Australia.
